Struggle City

SOOO what an epic three days. Our power went out, and then I broke my sister’s camera (the one with which I use for this blogggg). Sooo I honestly have nothing to show you all.

Be patient! Loves it.

Friday… on Wednesday

Woo! Today was my first real day back. As in, I had some great food and a great workout.

Breakfast first. I woke up to an almost empty container of non-fat vanilla Chobani and put another 1/2 container in it (about 160 cals and 44% of daily protein), I added 2 chopped strawberries, 3 or 4 T of flax meal and a dribble of blueberry kefir. It was a pretty hearty mixture.

and all mixed up!

After breakfast I hung with my sister and went to the bank, starbucks (iced grande unsweetened no water green tea) and WHOLE FOODS!!!! There we had tons of fresh fruit samples (2 pieces of watermelon, a cherry, 2 tortilla chips with fresh fruit salsa, peaches, grapes) and I got some goodies.

Drew convinced me to get some Synergy Kombucha tea. I was a bit iffy to try it because you can see the bacteria floating in it. But supposedly, its super good for you and super yummy. I also got some raw kale salad and a delicious treat. Peanut Butter and Co’s Dark Chocolate Dreams. As soon as I got home I had 1T and it was amazinggg. Its all I can think about and want some soooo bad right now. But I won’t. Check it out. And the nutrition facts (less fat and cals then my almond butter!!!)

Then I went to hot yoga with Drew. It was a crazy good class and I haven’t been in super long. Surprisingly, I could still do a lot of the moves and some even stronger than I used to be able to!

After yoga I drank my Kombucha.

Dinner was delicious. I sauteed a salmon filet in 1T of olive oil and fresh garlic, and topped it with fresh lemon juice, no sodium tomato sauce and 3 chopped cherry tomatoes on top. I also ate about 1/2 of my kale salad with dinner.

Okayyy. So enough with today, and onto Bonnaroooo.

Friday was the first sweat morning. Thursday night ended pretty early (about 1am) and we went straight to bed. It was sooo hot at night that we slept in our underwear. When we woke up Friday morning, we were literally soaked in sweat. Not only that, everyone woke up at 8am latest because it was sooo hot outside. So even if we were able to sleep through the heat, we still would be woken up by all the noise. Mornings waking up were the worst part of the entire festival, everything else was pretty good.

On Friday we saw Edward Sharpe, Umphrey’s McGee, Damian Marley and Nas, THE NATIONAL, The Flaming Lips, Bassnectar, KiD CuDi and LCD Soundsystem.

Edward Sharpe was super good except it was pretty crowded and I couldn’t get any good glimpses of the band.

Umphrey’s McGee was super jammy and fun.

Damian put on a GREAT show on the main stage. We were walking through during his set, and even once we left Centeroo (the actual part of the festival with the stages and tents, vendors, stores etc…) we could still hear him playing.

The National was superb. We went back to get a blanket and laid on the ground listening to them. They mixed old stuff and new stuff perfectly.

The Flaming Lips was a little lame. They always put on an amazing show (I saw the same one back in Chicago). However this time, the crowd was a little off. No one really seemed into the music and Wayne just trying to urge people on which wasn’t really working. We left the Lips after about 30 minutes and went straight to Bassnectar.

Bassnectar was incredible. The switch was such a good decision. He put on an amazing set, playing all the songs I wanted to hear and remixing it perfectly. I am so excited to see him again when he comes to Chicago in August.

Kid Cudi was good from what we heard. He was in a tent, and we can for the last couple songs after Bassnectar. Me and Natalie weren’t going to even try to make it somewhat into the crowd because it was huge and super dense. We stood at the back in a truck and could see over all of the crowd. His last, most popular songs were the best and for many of them everyone put thier lighters in the air which made it that much better.

LCD Soundsystem surprised me. I never really took that band seriously and after seeing them live I realized they truly are incredible! The lead singer has an amazing voice. It ended up getting a little weird at that show because a naked guy crowd surfed and then tried to run on stage and security had to taze him. Besides that little incident, it was super good. I definitely will start to listen to more of LCD after Bonnaroo.

That’s all for now! More about Saturday tomorrow!

Thursday… on Tuesday

So today was a pretty boring day. I slept in realllly late (till 1 pm!) to recover from Bonnaroo.

When I woke up I was starving and had leftover steak from last night and 2 strawberries for breakfast.

Before I hit the gym, I had a protein shake but I forgot to freeze the milk, so I used some vanilla non-fat greek yogurt to thicken it up. I did not like the taste. Tomorrow I’m freezing the milk early!

Okayyyy so on to Bonnaroo.

I’m going to sum up day 1 today.

It was last Thursday.

Me and my bestie Natalie drove down (8 hours!) to Tennessee Wednesday night and stayed in a hotel about 30 minutes from the festival in Manchester. On Thursday morning the line was stretched 15 miles down one side of the highway leading into the entrance and about 8 miles on the other side. We were in line for 8 hours! The line was on the shoulder of the highway with normal traffic in the 2 lanes next to us.

We took Natalie’s car down, which is an old red Volvo, and couldn’t handle the heat. The air conditioning didn’t work and after about 4 hours in line, we had to turn on the HEAT to cool the engine. It was brutal.

Once we pulled into our campsite, we quickly set up and collapsed. Throughout the weekend we drank 1 case and a half of water!

Natalie is the more musical of us two and showed me several bands throughout the weekend. Thursday we saw Local Natives (I had never heard of them before and LOVED them), Miike Snow (muddy and crowded, the music was iffy) and Lotus (fun jam-band dance sesh).

We went to bed the earliest of the weekend and got excited for more fun.

Tomorrow I’ll tell you all about Friday!!!

back from the dead!

Haven’t posted in about…. forever?

Because something big happened.

I went to

BONNAROO.

It was a life-changing, incredible experience and will forever be remembered.

It was a hot, hot, hot sweaty experience. I was dripping (LITERALLY) 24-hours a day. I woke up drenched, showered in a hose, started sweating while walking back to camp from the showers and went to bed wet. It was glorious.

Food wasn’t great nor worth being photographed.

Throughout this week I’ll give more and more snippets into what Bonnaroo was like, starting tomorrow (where I will talk about Thursday) while also getting myself back on track.

One thing I realized (because I was with my fabulous Natalie) is that I want to look amazing at Lollapalooza. So I might go a little protein crazy the next couple of weeks to jump start my failure over Bonnaroo.

Wish me luck!

Check back tomorrow…

P.S. I don”t want any of you to think that I am a bad blogger! I’ll be back on my game soon enough.

BANANA SOFT SERVE!

I made something I’ve always wanted to make yesterday morning.

Adapted from Angela’s recipe, I made my oats overnight (1/3 cup oats, 2T chia, 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 scoop whey and vanilla). In the morning I nuked 1/2 frozen banana for 30 sec just to soften it up and put that and another 1/2 frozen one in the blender on high! It wasn’t as good as a food processor but it worked. I topped my parfait with one miniature dark chocolate chopped. It was perfectionnnnnnn.

The rest of my day wasn’t very picturesque. But I made a salad with SALSA. That was incredible. I also put in some plain greek yogurt to balance it out. Also awesome. LEE (my beautiful little sister) took away her camera from me for a little bit so I didn’t photo it but I will make it again and take pics!!!!

Dinner with the Sass :)

My first parfait was today. I layered a breakfast cookie with almonds and 1/3 a mashed banana with 1 cup of vanilla non-fat greek yogurt. It was delish!

Then I went to the gym for some Vinyasa Flow yoga and 20 minutes on the elliptical. After the gym I headed out to whole foods!!! where I got STEVIA, CHIA SEEDS AND NO ADDED SODIUM TOMATO SAUCE. yayyyyyy.

There I snacked on all the samples of fresh fruit (I think cherries, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, honeydew and mangoes) which filled me up. I also split a smiley face cookie with my friend Brittany from Three Tarts. It was naughty.

I wasn’t too hungry for lunch but a couple hours before dinner I had some pretzels and dip (hummus, salsa and a leftover half can of tuna).

And then I finished the tuna with a wasa crackerrr. 🙂

For dinner I was alone with the Franny-sass and because she always BEGS me for bites of my food, I made her a dinner Andie-style.

We had a raw spinach, cherrytomato and cucumber salad with balsamic vinegar, split a salmon filet (sauteed in 1T olive oil and fresh garlic and squeezed with fresh lemon) and each had 1/2 of a stuffed pepper (GREAT recipe, but instead of using 4 halves, I shoved all the beans into only 2!).

It was delish and perfectly sized.

We were squished into a tiny part of the big family table.

She LOVED it. I’m definitely going to keep cooking for her!

gone missing

I’ve been missing! I graduated on Sunday!!!!!!!!! And then we had dinner at a sweet sushi place called Indie on the north side of Chicago. Then I had a graduation party at school until 4 am. Then I saw the sunrise at the beach with my entire graduated class until 8 am. Then I fell asleep. Throughout all of this mayhem, I never photographed anythinggg.

So I did today.

I went grocery shopping last Saturday.

My fridge changed from this:

to this!

(Only the top shelf is mine. The rest is my family’s.)

I woke up not very hungry but knew I needed something before my Speed workout for Summer Shape Up.

So I made a protein shake. I had a cup of milk already frozen and half a frozen banana (which I pre-peeled! geniussss) with 1 scoop of vanilla whey and cinnamon. It was so thick and frozen and delicious I ate it right out of the blender. It was like ice cream.

My workout was HARD. I was sweating bullets the entire time. But it felt soooo good.

I ate some cherries at the beach with Maggie.

Then my lunner was a huge salad. I topped an egg white puff (linked in previous posts) with a ton of spinach, cherry tomatoes, 1/3 of a cucumber, 1/4 of an avocado, basil, 1/2 can of tuna, balsamic vinegar (not vinegraitte) and about 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt. It was the perfect summer meal.

Yum.

eeeehhh boring

I came home from Kellys starving and about to go to the gym so had the other part of that Carrot Cake clif bar from a little bit ago.

When I left I put a cup of skim milk in the fridge. When I came back I made a protein shake with 1/2 a frozen banana, my frozen milk, vanilla whey protein powder and cinnamon. Sooo delicious! When it was finished blending I added broken pieces of Special Dark. It was superb.

When I go to Starbucks I get extra cups for my protein shakes later on. Always good for moving on the go!

At my aunt’s house I ate alot of cherries.

And dinner was a little bit of sausage. I wasn’t very hungry.

I’m going to yoga super early so I’m gonna go to bed and have a boring breakfast. Goooodnight!

FOUND IT!

Yayyyy. So first, I want to talk about YESTERDAY.

I feel like I haven’t posted in forever because yesterday was a major pic day!!!!

I slept over at Natalies and woke up to fresh fruit.

Then we did some yoga in her backyard and went for a run on the beach. It was super nice.

After that, we made veggie wraps!

They were whole wheat tortillas with pesto, colorful peppers, we split 1/4 of an avocado so 1/8 of an avocado each, spinach, sundried tomatoes and 2 slices of turkey!

This was is Natalies:

This one is mine:

Here’s Natalie with her wrap (I told you she had an amazing bod!)

Aaaand all rolled up!

And we split a Naked Juice Tropical Smoothie with Coconut Water

All set up:

and a Dove Bliss Dark Chocolate for dessert!

Dinner I ate at Kelly’s which was sweet corn on the cob :), steak and caesar saladddd. Not the perfect dinner nutrition wise but tasted great!
